Release notes
What changed in TAP (com.neverhold.tap). Updated with every Play AAB upload.
Synopsis · prior work
What TAP already shipped
TAP is the lean Neverhold sibling: Æther-style contact cards,
proximity TAP exchange, and a simple Supabase account —
without the full dialer, hold monitoring, or paid API integrations.
Through 2.3.0 the app already had People / Æther dashboard glass cards,
favorites and recents, cloud backup/restore, dual-transport exchange on Android (Nearby + BLE, first win) and BLE on iOS,
field chooser + touch animation, Terms/Privacy acceptance with account deletion, Play upload signing,
and first-run branding with adaptive icon and Share shortcut.
2.4.1 (build 44) — Current
Released October 2, 2026 · Package com.neverhold.tap
What’s new since 2.4.1 (build 43)
- Stability: Opening TAP from a link, file, or widget no longer crashes when that address has no screen. TAP stays on the screen you were already using.
2.4.1 (build 43)
Released September 30, 2026 · Package com.neverhold.tap
What’s new since 2.4.1 (build 40)
- Direct APK: The sideload package is build 43 (
com.neverhold.tap).
- Stability: Includes the build 40 fix — losing DNS or going offline while TAP refreshes your sign-in no longer reports as a crash. Your session stays; the app retries when the network returns.
2.4.1 (build 40)
Released September 28, 2026 · Package com.neverhold.tap
What’s new since 2.4.1 (build 39)
- Stability: Losing DNS or going offline while TAP refreshes your sign-in no longer reports as a crash. Your session stays; the app retries when the network returns.
2.4.1 (build 39)
Released September 27, 2026 · Package com.neverhold.tap
What’s new since 2.4.1 (build 38)
- Crash reporting: Google’s automated test devices (the image that reports 4 GB of RAM and 4 GB of storage) no longer send crash reports. Behavior on your phone is unchanged from build 38.
2.4.1 (build 38)
Released September 26, 2026 · Package com.neverhold.tap
What’s new since 2.4.0 (build 37)
- Performance restored on capable phones: Image and avatar caches now scale with device RAM (high / mid / low tiers) instead of one small clamp for every phone. Devices with 6 GB+ get generous caches; only true low-RAM devices stay tight.
- Memory pressure handled reactively: Caches shrink only when Android reports pressure (and recover on resume), instead of being permanently clamped.
- Rendering: Back to the default Flutter SurfaceView path — the TextureView workaround and the SurfaceControl override from build 37 are removed, cutting a composition pass on every frame.
- Changed:
largeHeap removed; it did not address the reported native crashes and only inflated GC work.
- Crash reporting: Automated test-harness sessions (Play pre-launch / emulator / x86) no longer report to Crashlytics; real-device reports are tagged with RAM tier, ABI and install source so future triage separates real users from store sandboxes.
2.4.0 (build 37)
Released September 25, 2026 · Package com.neverhold.tap
What’s new since 2.4.0 (build 36)
- Stability (low-RAM): Image and avatar caches start tighter and stay clamped for the rest of the session under memory pressure (no short restore that undid the clamp on build 36).
- Rendering: TAP uses TextureView for Flutter so some Pixel devices no longer ANR during surface create.
- Crashlytics: Ships the OnePlus SIGSEGV and Pixel ANR fixes that were pending after builds 34–36.
2.4.0 (build 36)
Released September 24, 2026 · Package com.neverhold.tap
What’s new since 2.4.0 (build 35)
- Adaptive memory: Image and avatar caches stay generous on healthy devices; they only tighten when Android reports memory pressure, then restore after a quiet period.
- Smaller decoded photos: Contact-list avatars and card photos decode at display size instead of full resolution, cutting RAM during scroll and card open.
- Stability (low-RAM): Flutter caches clear earlier while the app is still in the foreground when the system is under memory pressure (OnePlus SIGSEGV cluster).
2.4.0 (build 35)
Released September 24, 2026 · Package com.neverhold.tap
What’s new since 2.4.0 (build 34)
- Stability (low-RAM): Decoded image cache and avatar memory limits are tighter so low-free-RAM devices (notably OnePlus) are less likely to native-crash under avatar churn.
- Crashlytics: Ships the memory harden that was pending after build 34 SIGSEGV reports.
2.4.0 (build 34)
Released September 23, 2026 · Package com.neverhold.tap
What’s new since 2.4.0 (build 33)
- Username save: Invalid @handle rules no longer crash the profile editor; you get a normal error instead.
- TAP exchange: Nearby connection glitches (endpoint I/O / out-of-order API) are handled so they do not show as fatal crashes.
- Stability: Ships the Crashlytics fixes that were pending after build 33.
2.4.0 (build 33)
Released September 23, 2026 · Package com.neverhold.tap
What’s new since 2.4.0 (build 30)
- Voice phone verify: Twilio Outgoing Caller ID uses a voice call — the app shows a large keypad code; enter it on your dialpad during the call, then tap Done.
- Clearer OTP: Verification digits display as high-contrast cells so the code is easy to read while on the call.
- English-call notice: Spanish and English UI warn that the verification call is in English; you only need to enter the numbers.
2.4.0 (build 30)
Released September 20, 2026 · Package com.neverhold.tap
What’s new since 2.3.3 (build 28)
- Production cut: TAP ships as contact-first .tapcards — one personal card plus up to three business cards, with photos, backgrounds, and your chosen platforms on a single customizable card you own.
- Business Account card photos: Personal and business TAP card photos stay available after cloud sync. Missing Storage path refs are healed from existing media so designs and avatars recover across devices.
- Faster phone-book merge: First-run import no longer stalls for minutes on large address books; duplicate cleanup is batched.
- Onboarding polish: Language chooser no longer overflows on smaller screens; Æther meet-screen buttons are centered and clearer.
- Import from this phone: Settings and empty People point to merging contacts from the device, including WhatsApp-labeled numbers when the phone book has them.
2.3.3 (build 28)

2.3.3 (build 27)
Released August 27, 2026 · Package com.neverhold.tap
What’s new since 2.3.3 (build 26)
- Play 2027 quality: People lists no longer keep every contact photo in RAM. Release shrinking is tighter (DEX now under 10 MB). Android Restore Credentials is wired for zero-tap sign-in after a phone backup or transfer (needs the new Edge Function on the server).
2.3.3 (build 26)
Released August 27, 2026 · Package com.neverhold.tap
What’s new since 2.3.3 (build 25)
- Play quality AAB: Release 2.3.3+26 is the measurement bundle for Google’s Feb 2027 DEX/memory rules. R8 minify, shrink, and obfuscate are on. DEX is about 11.2 MB, so Play’s 25% shrink/obfuscate/optimize floor applies. Upload this AAB and read the three percentages in App bundle explorer.

What’s new since 2.3.3 (build 20)
- Sign in with Microsoft: Continue with Microsoft on the same path as Google (browser sign-in). A Microsoft email counts as verified the same way Google does; phone still uses a separate SMS code — TAP never auto-verifies a number from Microsoft.
- Permissions: After you grant a permission in Android Settings, TAP updates without needing a full app restart.
- Cloud backup: Backup status sits above Backup now so you can see last backup before you tap.

- Responder SMS: Destination/hospital, status chips (conscious / unconscious / critical / fatal), notes; includes the injured person’s name and phone.
- Faster launch: Branded native splash instead of a multi-second black screen; App Check deferred until after first frame.
- Cards / exchange: Two-phone logo centered above Start Exchange; taller business logos; billboard name/title under the photo; crop handles stay in the editor; share chooser label is My TAP contact card.
